Greetings Gentles all,

I saw this on a local news website this morning, and thought it might amuse some of the historical foodies among us. Does anyone have access to a redacted version of Loseyns that I might try? Sounds intriguing... :-)

In service and amusement,
Meli

Brits Lay Claim To Lasagna

A food fight is heating up over lasagna.

British researchers say they've found a British recipe for the pasta-layered dish dating from the 14th century -- long before Italian chefs came up with it.

A recipe for the British dish called loseyns has been found in a recipe book commissioned by King Richard the second in 1390.
The recipe includes making a paste from a type of flour, rolling it thin, and cooking it with grated cheese and sweet powder.

But Italians are having none of that. The Daily Telegraph reports an Italian Embassy spokesman says whatever the old dish was called, it was not lasagna as Italians make it.
