Two exhibitions at the Textile Museum in Washington DC, present carpets from the museum's collections that have not been displayed in more than ten years. "Carpets of Andalusia" (March 8 - August 10) showcases nearly two dozen Spanish carpets from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries that reflect Muslim, Christian, Jewish and indigenous Iberian traditions. Designs include complex surface decoration, interlaced geometric strapwork and stylized Arabian script and floral forms juxtaposed with Christian figurative forms. "Mamluk Rugs from Egypt: Jewels of the Textile Museum's Collection" (March 28 - September 7) offers a selection of rare examples considered to be some of the finest of their type. Dating from the last quarter of the fifteenth century, the rugs are patterned in geometric designs executed in jewel tones of red, blue and green.
