[MR] need to look Spanish

As Apollonia points out, the link to Vecellio's woodcuts gives some good
examples of a foriegner's view of Spanish dress, but I think that's not
really the look you're going for for Comedia. The look you'd need is
indeed, "not to look EXACTLY like a Conquistador, but to suggest a parody of
a foreign mercenary soldier." A Conquistador officer of the period would
probably have worn a burgonet (rather than a morion) and half armor in the
field, and when not on campaign, typical (but shabby) dress of an hildago.
Il Capitano is truly a fun character, and in comedia where I've seen him
portrayed he has worn a _wide_ brimmed plumed 'cavalier' hat, big poofy
paned slops and hose, long mustaches, a long rapier, and a really _bad_
spanish accent ;-) You could wear a Morion, as even in period it was
considered quintesentially Spanish, but was popular throughout Europe.
Comedia is anything but subtle, the speech and gestures of Capitano quickly
establish his character without much concern for 'Spanish' costume. OTOH,
I've developed a conquistador persona, and if you really want to go
authentic, rather than say, strictly comic, drop me an e-mail and I can scan
and send you some pictures of documented conquistador garb.
Vaya con Dios.

> The greatest writer of the Renaissance was William Shakespeare. He was
born in the year 1564, supposedly on his birthday. He never made much money
and is famous only because of his plays. He wrote tragedies, comedies, and
hysterectomies, all in Islamic pentameter. Romeo and Juliet are an example
of a heroic couple. Romeo's last wish was to be laid by Juliet.
