i must object. i have been in the SCA for over 10
years. the one time my stuff was missing from where i
left it (fencing gear) it turned out that one of my
close friends had put it in his car for safekeeping.
i have repeatedly seen people pick up dropped items
and walk around the site looking for the owner. every
event i have ever been to has a lost and found report,
and now it is posted to the Merry Rose. (No internet
when i started) There is no "trend."

one of the best things about the SCA is the fact that
i could leave my stuff laying out and the worst thing
that would happen is, in case of rain, i would have to
ask where someone had moved it. i will not, now after
10 plus years, start to look at my fellows as possible
thieves, and i don't like to hear people asking me to.

sure, mark your things well. the Gentle who finds your
misplaced stuff would like to know who it belongs to
so he can return it promptly. sure, don't leave your
stuff laying around in the first place. just because
someone will spend an hour trying to figure out whose
stuff it is doesn't mean you should force him to spend
that hour simply because you are too lazy to put your
stuff away.

i will not, at this point in my SCA "career" replace
my trust with suspicion. i resent people asking me to.
99.9% os SCAdians would be embarrassed to be though of
as thieves. we can deal with the 0.1% when we find
them.

almost everyone i have ever met hopes one day to be
the knight, riding in on the white charger, saving the
day. i've never met anyone who wants to be the
villian. i will thank each of you to remember that.

Domenico Barbiere da Mantova.
who used to be Angus of Hamildone
and has seen SCAdians do the strangest, most honorable
things.
