Ahh, but you see, it *does* take more effort to respond to a
polling:
1. First and foremost -- You have to remember to do it. You
have to send the polling responses by US Postal Service; you
can't just send an email in response to a current debate on
the Merry Rose. Remembering to do it is probably the biggest
culprit.
2. After you remember to do it, you have to find the form (I
know this is optional -- see #3). In many Scadian homes,
finding the form might be a major project, which might get put
off until tomorrow, at which point see #1.
3. Next, fill out the form, or else just write a letter. No
problems, usually, with this one.
4. Find an envelope. See #2 (major project,
procrastination), and then see #1.
5. Find a stamp. See #2 (major project, put off), and then
see #1.
6. No stamps found. Go to the Post Office to get some
stamps. See #2 (major project), and then see #1. Or order
them from the Internet, assuming no one is hogging the
computer; if so, see #2, and then see #1. Even if you order
them on-line, the stamps won't arrive for another day or two.
7. Now that you have the stamp, find the envelope again.
8. Find the address you're supposed to send the polling to.
If you're using the form, it's probably right there on the
form. But if you're writing a letter, you have to find the
Acorn that says where to send the polling (see #2 and #1), or
go online to find it on the web site (see #6, #2, and #1).
9. Write the address on the envelope.
10. Darn it! Where'd those stamps go? No, Fido, not in your
mouth! Put that down! Boy, I sure hope stamp glue isn't
fatal to dogs. ............. On second thought........
11. Repeat step 6 (and maybe #2 and #1).
12. Ohhhh, no. You *didn't* just tell me you were using the
form as a bookmark and you left it at work!?!
13. Repeat step 2 or 3 (and possibly #1).
14. Okay, finally. Got the form filled out, got the envelope
with the address, got the stamp. Whew! My 16-hour investment
in time over the past 3 months is finally going to pay off!
At last!
15. What do you mean, the deadline was last week?
Do you, perhaps, have a better idea now of why people talk
about it in email and don't actually send in the polling?

| It takes just as much effort to write a post to a list

| laziness. It's always a very curious situation to me.
