==================================
Greetings,
On Feburary 14 at 8:00p.m. at Estrella War (S.C.A.) there will be a Middle Eastern Dance and Drum Competition.
There will be two categories: Amateur and Advanced in both Dance and Drum.
The Amateur is recommended for those with less than three years experience, however the judges may elect to change the category selected if the performance warrants judging to the other standard. A fair evaluation of your abilities when signing up will be appreciated. Additional details of the individual rules will be explained at the competition.
Dance Competition Rules and Guidelines
The dances will be solo performances with a time limit of 2-5 minutes of live music by drums or musicians; no pre-recorded or electronic instruments will be allowed.
The competition is being held as part of a medieval society recreation event and this theme will be maintained in the competition. No Modern nightclub costumes
Dancers will be judged primarily on how well they dance (Style, Technical, and Artistry)
Depending on how many dancers participate it will be announced if and when props may be used, so bring them just in case.
There will be separate prizes sponsored by Katherine of Kate Hall for the best authentic pre 17th century historic costume.
Drummers Competition Rules and Guidelines
Depending on the number of drummers and their abilities the competition will consist of different combinations of the following:
Playing beledi, chistetlli, masumdi, siada, karshimia, maqsum, and ayoub while adjusting to the speed of the designated lead drummer.
Staying in rhythm while "drunken drummers" intentionally try to lead you astray.
Maintain your concentration and rhythm while in conversation with a judge and while distractions are occurring in the surrounding area.
Solo performance of one minute to showcase your drumming talents (if time permits).
After the competition dancing and drumming reveal afterwards open to all.
If you have any further questions or want to help out with the competition please contact Safa al Abal at tleeann at prodigy.net.
