To Vitha, Other Cooks, and Autocrats...

Yes! Post the menu if you can!

For those who are concerned about the traffic on the list, it doesn't
have to be here. If your event has a web page, putting it there and
notifying the Merry Rose that it is up is more than sufficient.

No, it doesn't have to be specific...most can get the general idea.
For one event we put up a menu and put a small code up next to the
dishes: M=Meat, N=nuts, D=dairy V=Fully Vegan. If they have specific
allergies/dislikes, particularly ones that are easily hidden or unusual
it really is their responsibility to themselves to contact you to find
out if the specific allergens are going to be included. They should do
this way in advance! Not the day of! If they have true allergies, they
should also discuss with you the chances of cross contamination too!
(Rushing people to the emergency room during feast is never pleasant)

You should not feel obligated to change your ingredients based on
others. It is nice when planning your menu to think about common
allergies and dietary restrictions. Particularly if you know of ones
that are common in your area. But you should be the one to decide what
adaptations you are willing to make.

You should NEVER be expected to change your planned menu the weekend of
the event!!!

Yes, there may be some who decide that they would rather not eat feast,
but wouldn't you rather them decide this up front, leaving that feast
space open for someone who does want it and will enjoy it, rather than
to purchase a space, and then be very grumpy about the experience?!?

As for your fear that it will influence whether some one comes to an
event...I have never decided NOT to attend an event due to their feast.
If I knew I was not going to like their feast, I planned ahead and
brought my own food, or made plans to go eat nearby. On the other hand,
I have often been tempted TO attend an event by the interesting feast
they promised to present.

"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy.
If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem.
But I arise in the morning torn between the desire to improve the world,
and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day."
