Your Excellency,

As you have asked I have looked into the disturbances
in Smeewick, and report to you now what I have found.

With the Spanish threat now gone, one would expect the
sleepy town of Smeewick to now rest quietly on the
countryside. But there are two in this town who are
not content to share in the prosperity the sea has
blessed them with, and now move to secure Smeewick for
themselves.

The first, a Countess who has long been in these
lands, indeed since before they were known as
Lochmere. Countess Aryanna is well known to all in our
Barony. It seems she feels that with the departure of
the Spanish, now is the time for her to secure the
financial rewards of Smeewick.

The second, also wearing the county coronet, is a more
recent addition to our Barony. Countess Mary-Grace has
won many supporters in her time here, and now she
feels is the time to cement her hold on Smeewick.

So far there have been few open confrontations, but
now almost every member of the town bears a token. The
supporters of her Excellency Aryanna bear regal
purple, while those of Her Excellency Mary-Grace wear
nature's green.

It is against this backdrop, Mi'lord, that I must
report one peculiar development. Two strangers have
this very day entered the town. Each bearing
themselves as would befit a peer of this realm, indeed
one doubly so. Although I do not recognize them, the
eyes of the households are upon them. I fear that they
may be the spark that ignites this powder keg.

Your Excellency, I am but the humble mayor of this
town, and I am ill-equipped to keep peace between two
Countesses. Fear is heavy upon me that before long
there will be bare blades in the street. I will report
to you again soon.

Lord Kynnyth Pyke
Mayor of Smeewick
