Greetings all!
Recently at Ymir I had the opportunity to speak with several people who
expressed an interest in glassworking specifically in making lampwork glass
beads. I was pleased to hear from so many people and would like to extend
some information that might be helpful in getting started with glasswork
within the SCA.
First, our kingdom has a glassworkers guild called: La Compagnia dei
Maestri del Vetro. The list mom is Maistreas Caitlín Cheannláidir and to
join the list you need to contact this address: caitlin at phosphor-ink.com
For those of you who are on many different lists and dread tons of e-mail,
fear not. We are a relatively quiet group but there are some wonderfully
knowledgeable people on the list. We have had some great exchanges of
information regarding techniques, research and even a bead swap.
Second, at the upcoming Kingdom Arts and Sciences Fair
(http://kasf.atlantia.sca.org/) we are planning a glass display and demo
coordinated by Maitstreas Caitlin. This will hopefully include many forms
of glasswork. Several of us from the CMV list plan to attend and display.
We will also be available for questions and comments. If you are a
glassworker and would like to participate in this display feel free to
contact me (nitefall3 at earthlink.net)(Or, if you just want to talk beads)
Third, the Windmaster's Hill chapter of the glass guild is very active and
holds fairly regular meetings which often include beginner information for
lampworking and for other glass forms such as glass painting. Their
information can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/glassworkers/index
Also, (if all plans work out,) I will have a display and demo of lampwork
beadmaking at the upcoming Raiders of the lost cove V event/demo.
Information about that event is found here:
http://acorn.atlantia.sca.org/0303/raiders.htm
And finally, look for more exciting glass classes at upcoming Universities.
As interest in glasswork increases, I'm sure we will have more classes at
University regarding these art forms.
If you have any questions about any of this, please contact me.

In Service,
Tegan de Moreton
