My two cents:
Judges are very often under HORRENDOUS TIME PRESSURE.
Organizers and competitors both need to remember this.
As an organizer I've had judges fail to show at an
event without arranging for a replacement, not being
able to find enough people to judge, andautocrats
pressuring me to get them the damn scores NOW so court
can start on time. The result can be that even the
best judges don't have time to write long, kindly
worded, thoughtful critiques. Contestants need to
remember this when they get their sheets. A simple,
bald statement does NOT always equal a "slam" from a
judge. Yes, judges need to remember to be sensitive &
useful, but contestants also need to remember to read
judging sheets with a grain of salt.
