[MR] Judges comments

Just to throw my opinion out there too -- I don't know if I've just been
incredibly fortunate in the judges at the competitions I've entered or if
there are some really nasty ones out there. I have not experienced that.

In fact, the comments I've gotten have been very helpful and obviously as
diplomatically phrased as possible. If they've been 'negative' (for lack of
a better word!), they've usually also explained in what ways my particular
project could be improved and better research resources.

Personally, I'm not sure that judging is a job I'd want to do! How do you
decide between needlework, cooking, metalworking and glassmaking -- not to
mention all the other crafts that could appear in an A&S competition -- and
choose the 'best' one of them? I don't know of anyone who'd be that expert
in multiple fields! I'm interested in just about everything and know I
don't have the detailed knowledge that would require.

As for the people that whimper, whine and quit because they're 'not winning'
the competitions, well, you don't get to win all the time! Pick yourself
up, see where you need to improve and keep working on it! Yes, I have won a
couple of competitions and I must admit, that's really great! <G> But I've
gotten as much satisfaction from displaying my work and hearing what people
think of it.
