As an Army Reservist (who hasn't yet been activated),  let me first say,
"Thanks for the thought".  Care packages can definitely be a big morale
booster.  My recommendation would be to find someone who knows a
soldier/sailor/marine/airman already overseas (really shouldn't be too
hard) and send the boxes to that individual.  I can promise you that the
items will be distributed throughout the unit.  That's simply the way
things are done.  Soldiers share.  I would recommend, in addition to the
bullion cubes (good idea, that) homemade cookies (put 'em in ziplock's &
they keep pretty well), paperback novels (military sci-fi is pretty popular
& they'll get passed around), and just a short letter or card saying
"Thanks, we're praying for you".  If you do have trouble finding someone
who knows a deployed servicemember, try contacting your local Guard or
Reserve Center.  They may already be deployed, but their's usually a couple
of people from the unit who remain behind as a kind of liason to the
families.  And again, thanks.
