If there were valid bids in, that would certainly be the case. That
information is typically only delayed because there is indeed not an
accepted (generally read "submitted") bid. Either that or we're trying
extra hard for some sort of rotation.
Believe me, we're not hiding anything. Once we know we get that information
for Kingdom events to you as soon as possible. That's one reason for the
early bid dates - so that other groups have time to plan their events
around those "unprotected" events. Sometimes *shrug* that's just not
possible. If you have any questions about the status of bids for any
kingdom event, Lady Katherine is but one email away.
For everyone who has said they'd like to know when and where kingdom events
are earlier, I present you one task. Submit one bid, for one kingdom event,
within the next year, on time. It's not hard - most kingdom events run
themselves, because there are kingdom officers running aspects of the event
(University, Kingdom A&S, and Crown come immediately to mind).
And if you find that too hard, then consider that it's that hard for the
people you're asking to do it as well.
As to a regional system, it's been considered several times. And the
finding up to now show that it wouldn't work well. Why? Because there is
typically ONE bid for each kingdom event. (At at times it's barely that).
That's hard to show that a rotation could work well. I've also spoken with
other kingdom seneschals. And I've found that it just means they have a
smaller pool to go to to try to find someone to host the event.
If you won't go to a kingdom event unless it's near you, then more extended
notice that there's one farther away won't help much. And looking at the
calendar over the past year or so, events have rotated fairly evenly around
the kingdom.
If you want to see kingdom events in your area, prepare a bid and submit
it. You'd be surprised how well that works. (I believe bids are due for
Fall Univ. no Feb. 15 - we don't have any).
Also, I will shortly be announcing that I am looking for a new event bids
deputy. Katherine has served the kingdom well, as is now looking for the
opportunity to let someone else take a turn. If you're interested, give her
a buzz.
