The advice from Halima is good for chickens.  Geese are a bit more problematic
because of the down, which is mind numbing to pluck.  One way we've dealt with
it is to use paraffin to wax the bird after plucking the feathers.  A couple of
waxings usually gets all the down, but it can be messy. :)

For my wife and I, though, when we slaughter fowl we just skin them.  We don't
tend to eat the skin anyway, and it's lickity-split quick to peel the skin off
once they've cooled a bit.
