[MR] polling versus Vote of Confidence

Rebecca,
That's a great question! I would say that the baronial election is a
non-binding election. That would mean that the election results will count
unless overturned by the Crowns. One would hope that this would be a rare
occurrence, but there's no guarantee. It's sort of like a judge overturning a
jury's decision if the judge feels that the jury ignored the law. But, in most
cases, the results of a baronial election would be just like a more ordinary
election. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if a Crown felt more comfortable
going with a runner-up if the election was very close.

Subject: [MR] polling versus Vote of Confidence
Since we're having this recent discussion about words
before the holidays, I've been wondering. When we are
a member of a polling order we have a polling and are
reminded that a polling is not a vote.
When the landed baronage wants to re-up for another 2
years, etc we have a Vote of Confidence, but we are
reminded that this is also a polling and not a
popularity contest. We are reminded that those who
become the landed baronage might not be the most
popular vote-getters.
So why is one a polling and the other a "Vote of
Confidence"?
Rebecca
