Good Gentles,
This is to announce the Novice Display to be held on Sunday afternoon
at Sapphire Joust. I do not have the time for the event at the moment,
but will post that as quickly as I can. The rules for the display are
as follows: It must be something you have never tried before, i.e.,
something
you have started doing within the last year. This doesn't mean that
only folks who have been in the Society for a year can participate. If
Duke Sir Gyrth were to start doing bead embroidery, that would be a new
skill for him (I think...he's so multi-talented!!), and would be
eligible.

2. It should be documented. Below you will find a form to get you
started if you've never done this before. You ARE NOT required to use
this form...it's just a suggestion. All you will have to do is
answer some simple questions about your project.

3. The project can be a "work in progress".

4. There will be a specific time, about an hour, when we will ask that
you be with your work. That way, if anyone wants to talk with you
about it, they can...and you can ask anyone who has experience with
that type of work for opinions/assistance/etc.

5. As it is a display, there will be no judging nor prizes. We will
ask those who view the exhibit, especially Laurels and Pearls, to leave
tokens and comments with works they particularly admire.

It is my hope that many of you will take this opportunity to try
something new or show off work that you are just learning how to do. I
think it will be a lot of fun, along with a great chance to learn more
about the art or craft you have chosen. If you have any questions
and/or concerns, please let me know.

                      Suggested Documentation Form

1. What is this?

2. Describe where I might see one in the Middle Ages.

3. Do you have any pictures or photocopies of ones from the Middle
Ages? (If so, please bring to lay out with your entry.)

4. What did you use to make this?

5. What were the ones in the Middle Ages made of?

6. What steps did you take to make it?

7. How were the ones in the Middle Ages made?

8. If different, why did you decide to make it in a different way than
the medieval artist would have? (e.g., equipment unavailable, safety
reasons, financial reasons)

7. What do you like best about your entry?

8. What would you like to change if you could?
