Subject: A request for help
Hello friends. Ryan and I have a favor to ask and a very sad story to
share
with you. Our friends, Marie and Jeff Harold, lost their only child, T.C.
this past Friday night. T. C. was a beautiful, bright, 18 month old boy.
He was a healthy, happy, little guy until Friday evening. At 7:30pm he
suddenly began to bleed heavily through his mouth and nose. Marie and Jeff
called 911 and T.C. was taken to Carroll County General Hospital. He lost
consciousness just as the ambulance pulled up to the hospital. He was
resuscitated and given lots of blood then flown by medivac to Johns Hopkins
Children Center. The doctors there continued attempting to resuscitate
him.
The blood bank gave them unlimited access to the blood they needed just
to
continue working on him. By the time they had done all they could to help
him, they had replaced his full body blood volume TWO times.
Unfortunately, all the efforts of the wonderful doctors and nurses were not
enough to save T.C. He was declared dead around midnight Friday night,
October 18. The autopsy revealed that he had had an asymptomatic infection
in the back of his throat that ate through his throat and reached an artery
leading to the brain. That artery had ruptured and had a ¼ inch hole in
it.
The doctors explained that the odds of this particular set of
circumstances leading to the death of a child were comparable to getting
struck in the head and killed by a meteor falling from they sky.
The family and all their friends are overwhelmed at the loss of this
amazing
little boy. I am writing to ask three things of you. First, please keep
our friends and their son's spirit in your prayers in the coming weeks and
months. They will be struggling to work through this for some time to
come.
Second, Marie and Jeff have asked us to find as many people as possible
to
donate blood in the name of T. C. Harold. They are hoping many people can
donate directly to the blood bank at Hopkins, as their supply was greatly
depleted while working on T.C., but any donations to any blood bank will be
greatly appreciated. The only reason the doctors had the hours to work on
T.C. is because of the blood supply. It is so very important. I realize
not all of you can donate blood as the restrictions have become greater and
many people have medical reasons they will not qualify. To those of you
who
cannot donate blood, Ryan and I are working on getting a substantial
financial donation together to send to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center
in the hopes that another family will one day get the miracle that Marie
and
Jeff did not have.
Please do whatever works for you. If you donate blood, please take an
extra
moment to mention that it is being done in memory of T.C. Harold. If you
are
interested in contributing financially, please make checks payable to:
Johns
Hopkins Children's Center and mail them to Ryan and I at:
Lynette and Ryan Casey
35 Hunting Horn Circle
Reisterstown, MD 21136
Please let us know if you're going to donate blood so we can be sure that
Marie and Jeff know people are thinking of them. Thank you so much for any
help you can give. Feel free to forward this along to anyone who may be
interested in helping.
Love and peace,
Lynette
