Greetings good gentles belonging to our Fair realm, I pray this missive reaches you all hale and well.
For those of you may be in the area of DC, who have access to military bases, who are bored stiff and need to get out, the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month the Honourable Lady Gwenllian and I are hosting Social Evenings, whereupon you don your comfy garb and bring yourself over for tea, cookies and something we like to call 'Whatever'. Be it gabbing or dancing, we'll find something to do. This coming 4th Tuesday of October, the 22nd, from 7pm to 10pm we'll be making mead. Why? Because Last Time the Honourable Lord James decided to push his Peachy Concotion at us and we decided en mass that the world simply did not have enough of the stuff , thusly we must remedy that by messing up my kitchen and making more to test the tastebuds of the poor sap...er.. lucky chap... we next bump in to. M'Lord James has kindly consented after several hours on the rack, to teach us his methods.
So. Wear your 'I don't mind getting this dirty' garb and come on over to the home of Lady Isabeau-Sophia di Polcenigo at 3429 D Lackland Way, Bolling AFB, DC. (202)563-6205
If you plan on playing in the mead, please bring these implements of destruction:
[snipped from James]
1 gallon plastic jug.. preferably the harder plastic of juice or vinegar jugs. you can find the vinegar ones at costco- maybe other places too
2-4 lbs of clover honey works. Raw honey needs cooked, processed doesnt. Orange blossom honey is awesome. 2lbs makes dry, 4 makes sweet. AVOID HEATHER HONEY
96 oz of fruit juice (something NOT citrus or too tart; cranberry, grapefruit, lemon, orange) The following juices are period and the resulting mead was named accordingly: grape-pyment, pear-perry, apple-cyser. However, being the mead-guzzling fiends we are, and we know our forebears probably were too.. other fruits are just as cool to try out.
Also please bring something nice for M'Lady Gwen as she and M'Lord James are going to supply the necessary yeast. If you don't want to or can't bring these items, not to worry! For a small tithe we can provide for you. If you just don't want to play in the mead, bring yourself over anyhow and keep the rest of us company.
I have a 3 year old son and a cat in my home, for those who have allergies to either. I welcome children of all ages, but fear that anyone over the age of 5 will be bored unless they bring their own amusements. They can't break anything that the last movers haven't. We're going to be making use of the stove, so there will be hot liquid about as well.
Directions to Bolling by way of the Visitor's Gate:
There are two gates on Bolling--the Main Gate and the South Gate, also known as the Visitors' Gate. The Main Gate is only open during daylight hours.
