SAFF... *drool* This is indeed something to attend!!!!! The spinners guild
has had a decent sized group going for the last two years, and it's been
WONDERFUL!
Last year we had a blast, with everyone dividing up into little groups,
attacking... er... shopping like heck for a few hours, then meeting in the
stands for lunch (there's genrally food available there in the arena, so you
don't have to leave fiber-y goodness for such trivialities as lunch) then we
shopped until our debit cards shrieked in agony.
There is usually an area set up to play with.. excuse me, 'try out' spinning
wheels, looms, and other items of fiber fun. There are people who make
wonderful hand-made drop spindles, almost any fiber you can imagine wanting
in almost any color, and by that day, people are generally lowering prices so
they don't have to pack things up and take them back home. (The Holda of the
spinning guild bought a wheel there two years ago for the spinners to rent
out to learn to use... it was a $350 retail wheel, she got it for $140)
This is probably too much information --grin-- but it really was a blast for
people who like the fiber arts, not just spinners, but also knitters and
crocheters, weavers and well, you get the picture. It's a wonderful place to
find books that you don't normally see at Barnes & Noble, and there are
workshops during the day, to learn how to use some of the equipment.
All in all, if you're a well-established spinner, or just learning the craft,
I would recommend attending!
We generally pile into several cars right after the Mabinogi/Labyrinth, and
this year Silver Chalice event, first thing Sunday morning, and head for the
hills. If anyone else is interested in caravanning or meeting there for lunch
and fiber fun, feel free to contact me or anyone in the Spinners' Guild!
We'll see what we can work out for an outing. :)
