[MR] The Toile Issue

Greetings all,
I am by no means the expert on this issue. Alot of times I feel like I am
reinventing the wheel almost every time I make a garment. 90% of the
patterns out there fit only about 10% of the populace. When I first started
playing, I had no idea that these "period" patterns even existed. (With a
little assistance) I have always made my own patterns.
The following is a very generalized statement and can be argued at length
elsewhere: if one can make a good "mock-up" in 3 general styles(cotehardie,
Italiante, and Tudor/Elizabethan) one can almost make anything your heart
desires with appropriate changes (sleeves, neckline, lower or raise
waistline, etc) Now, that is a sweeping comment but, for the basic
seamstress, it works.
I firmly agree that this class should be taught. Mock-ups save time and
money in the long run. Let's face it, we all have garments that either lurk
in the back of the closet or wind up in loaner. This need not happen.
In Service,
Sithmaith NicAoidh
