The Medieval Tailor's Assistant: making common garments 1200-1500
by Sarah Thursfield is an excellent start.
It is written quite well, has wonderful amounts of information on how to
make what she calls a Pattern Block geared to your own measurements and
goes through quite a variety of garments and how to acheive their proper
drape and fit on *you*.
400 line drawings, 121 patterns and tons of common sense! The book runs
at Amazon for about $40- and i am sure you could find it cheaper
somewhere else.
