Greetings to the populace of Atlantia,
Just so everyone is up to date I thought I would go ahead and post the
flyer for The King's Assessment Battles here. There are a couple of minor
changes from what was published in the Acorn recently.

The King's Assessment Battles
Pre-Pennsic Regional War Practice
July 12-14, 2002
Barony of Black Diamond
Long have the Kingdoms of the East and Middle made war on one another in
the August sun. We will surely be there in order that Atlantian banners may
be graced in further glory. We will be faced with much effort to be fully
prepared for the fight and we, your brothers in arms and arts in Black
Diamond invite you to come prepare for the war. Don your armour, saddle
your snorting steed, unfurl your banners, and join us in provisioning,
feasting, merrymaking, and mustering our troups on the field of glory!
Site: The war practice shall take place at the farm of Angus Farquhar and
Nastas'ia Rosenzwiege located North-East of Roanoke. The site will open
Friday at 4:00pm and will close at 4:00pm on Sunday. The site is 100%
primitive with modern vehicle traffic restricted on Saturday. Port-a-johns
and shower setups are planned (bring your shower bags if you want
hot-water). The site is discreetly wet. Pets are allowed on a leash only.
Martial Activities:
Heavy - To prepare for the war, there will authorizations and several
scenarios that are planned that will include a field battle, woods battle,
and a storm the defended church yard wall battle at the discretion of the
warlord and HRM. We will also include combat archery and siege engines in
the scenarios.
Rapier - Several scenarios will be available for the lighter arms of the
kingdom as well and will include the oportunity for a woods battle, a melee
of sorts, and something to involve Atlantia's ship companies that is yet to
be determined.
Archery - Combat archery in conjunction with the heavy fields will be the
focus of the day. A long outdoor range will be provided for honing your
skills as well.
Siege Engines - Again combat readiness for the troups is the focus.
A&S: There shall be an area to display your A&S items that relate to your
Pennsic encampment. There will be no judging of the A&S items, only comments.
Equestrian: There will be an equestrian demonstration to help promote that
activity.
Breakfast/Lunch: Breakfast will be prepared and served by the Canton of
Azuremont for a small fee. Lunch will be prepared and served for an
additional small fee by the Shire of Lochsheen. Both of these are efforts
for those groups to raise funds for equipment and future events.
Feast: A feast, prepared by head cook Lady Magda vander Aa (Amy Smith) and
the newly formed Cooks Guild of Black Diamond will be served. The feast
shall have a traditional feast (on board) for a limited number and a
peasants fare (chow-line). For dietary concerns you may contact Lady Magda
via email at squrrl at vt.edu.
Merchants: Merchants are most welcome and will not be charged beyond basic
site fees. We do want to limit merchadise to period reproductions and
prefer those craftsmen who make their own wares. During check-in with troll
please advise us if you are merchanting and what your spacial requirements
are. If you have questions or would like to let us know ahead of time of
your intended attendance, please contact the autocrat.
Cost: Day tripping or onsite for the weekend is the same cost at a modest
$6.00 at the gate or $5.00 pre-registered. Children 6-12 are half price and
children 5 and under are the guest of the barony. On board feast is an
additional $7.00, peasants fair is $4.00. Make checks payable to the Barony
of Black Diamond, SCA, Inc.
Reservations: Please send all reservations to the autocrat. Please include
the names, both persona and mundane, of all those for whom you are
reserving. The feast is limited (both on board and peasants fair) so please
reserve early. Those planning the weekend are stongly encouraged to pre
reserve. Any groups pre-reserving will have efforts made to keep your
camping space together. Paid reservations are the only reservations
considered.
