> Equestrian Activities at "Feast of the Thirty", May 17-19, 2002
>
> Atlantian Equestrians are invited to join the Canton of Falcon Cree at
their event, The Feast of the Thirty on May 17-19, 2002 at King's Mountain
State Park, SC. We will have a full day of games practice and competition on
Saturday, and a trial ride on Sunday morning. Rental horses MUST be
pre-reserved. The attached registration form and check made out to Carol
Carson must be received by the EMIC by May 10th. Private horses are most
welcome, but you must still return the reservation form.
>
> The games will be played on four fields set up side by side and will run
concurrently. The viewing area will be set up at the end of the fields, so
viewers may observe what is going on in all areas at once. There will be a
formal presentation and review of riders and horses to the populace just
prior to the games. Each rider will be led before the viewing area and
presented to the populace. Please prepare an "introduction" for your
"page/herald/horse attendant" to read. This can be as simple as : "Now comes
M'Lady Saddlewide, hailing from the Canton of Horse Feathers, riding for the
honor of M'Lord Hoofbeat, whose token she bears." Or as complex as. "Now
comes Duke Sir Godawful, Award of Arms, Grant of Arms, Companion of the
Great Seal, the Yellow Bird, (Etc.). He is of the lineage of Sir
Came-Before-Me (his knight), of Sir Came-Before-That, etc., etc., etc. He
hails from the mighty Barony of Mane-hair, in the great and incomparable
Kingdom of Best-of-all. Thrice King of Best-of-all, (list every office/honor
held), he bears or, two mullets sable above a chevron sable (device, if
any). He rides for the honor and glory of his Barony, whose colors he
bears." You can "shtick" it up as much as you wish.
>
> Bring trappers, costumes, flags, banner poles, and anything you can think
of make as splendid a presentation as we can.
>
>
> Private Horses must show proof of negative Coggins prior to unloading . If
you are traveling from outside the state, you must show appropriate
state-to-state travel papers (30 day health certificates). There are
private, open stalls available, and will be allotted on a first
reserved/first served basis. Stalls must be cleaned prior to departure.
Bedding is not provided. be sure to bring all bedding, feed and equipment
necessary for your horse, including water buckets. Stallions, known biters
and known kickers are not allowed.
>
>
> Rental Horses prices are $60/ horse for Saturday and $25/horse for the
Sunday Trail Ride. Riders may share rental horses for the practice and games
(3 Walk Riders; 2 Trot Riders; 2 Canter Riders per horse). If you have
someone with whom to share, please try to send in your reservations
together. If you would like to share, but don't have a partner, contact the
EMIC and I will try to match you with another rider on a first come-first
serve basis. Rental horses cannot be shared for the trial ride. If you are
interested in the trial ride, please RESERVE EARLY!
>
> All riders are expected to help with the care of the horses - grooming,
tacking, cooling, cleaning up after. Please pitch in to help wherever you
can.
>
> IMPORTANT: The area of the horse where a rider sits is not the strongest
part of the horse. For humanitarian purposes, since these are mostly
smallish animals, the top weight for a rider will have to be 250 pounds.
>
>
> Minors between the ages of 5 and 17 may participate when a parent is
present and observing at all times. You must contact Baroness Beatrice as
soon as possible to arrange riding for a minor. There are specific
regulations and paperwork needed for minors, so do this early. Baroness
Beatrice von Staufen (Jessica Mikell); (803) 583-6512;

> Games:
>
> Rings - Rings of different sizes are attached to a T-shaped piece of
equipment set down a straight run. The rider has two passes with their lance
to attempt to put rings on their lance. The rider's score is judged on the
size of the rings they were able to put on their lance.
>
> Saracen - The rider weaves between poles attempting to knock off the
"head" set on each pole. At the end of the first pass, the rider comes back
to the starting point in a straight line. The number of heads knocked down
during the pass, plus the best time determines the rider's score.
>
> Pig Sticking - Carrying a spear, the rider has two passes in which to pick
up a "pig" with the end of the spear. Score will be based on how many "pigs"
are picked up.
>
> Quintain - Tilting at a T-shaped piece of equipment set half way down a
straight run. The rider has 2 passes to strike to quintain with their
lance. As it is struck, the quintain rotates. The total number of complete
rotations is the rider's score.
>
>
> Miscellaneous: There are no turnout pens on site. The wranglers will be
bringing some portable ones for their horses, so they will be kept separate
from the private horses.
>
> There will be no separate authorizations. Authorizations will be done as
the rider plays the games. No one but the rider and the Marshall will know
the game being played is also an authorization. Baroness Beatrice will also
be conducting safety classes. You must take the Safety Class to be an
authorized rider or ground crew member. The scheduled times of Safety
Classes will be announced later.
>
> Baroness Beatrice will be arriving Friday and bringing the games with her.
We will try to get all the games set up on Friday. Any and all help will be
greatly appreciated.
>
> Private horses MUST show up-to-date negative Coggins before unloading on
site. If you are coming from out side SC, you will also need to present
valid state-to-state travel papers (30 day health certificate).
>
> Minors MUST wear ASTM or Snell Equestrian riding helmet while riding.
Helmets are also recommended for adults. Some individuals may have loaner
gear, but bringing your own is recommended.
>
> Closed shores are required for riding. Solid boots with heels are highly
recommended.
>
> Don't forget to send in your reservations for the event itself to the
autocrat!
