Storvik's Baronial Birthday Event

May 10-12, 2002

Patuxent River Park
16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro, MD

Come bask in the spring sunlight and the glow of friendships rekindled, as
all strive for glory through deeds of arms and arts. The Baroness of
Storvik invites one and all, within and without her lands, to join together
for a weekend of fighting, feasting and festivity, at Storvik's Baronial
Birthday. At this time, the Baroness will seek among her populace those who
exemplify the skills and graces that further all our enjoyment of these
Current Middle Ages.
She seeks three Baronial Champions of Arms: an armored fighter, to stand as
a strong bulwark against any foreign threat; a skilled hand with a rapier,
to stand on her behalf should challenges of honor be fought; and an
eagle-eyed archer, to demonstrate to all the deadly accuracy of Storvik's
bows.

Her Excellency also seeks a Baronial Champion of the Bardic Arts, to laud
those whose efforts merit praise; and a champion of Arts & Sciences, to
guide those who seek to acquire the skills and disciplines that glorify her
court. The Arts & Sciences competition this year is "food for a period
picnic," which will be judged by the Baroness and then provided for the
delectation of the populace. In addition, we will be holding a "curriculum
vitae" style A&S display, so that those in attendance might marvel at the
range of skills displayed. Finally, the artisans of Storvik encourage those
skilled and interested in the arts of flame and forge to join us for an
afternoon of playing with fire.

The Baroness invites all within her Barony to present themselves for
examination and contests, so that each may display his or her skills to
their fullest; and she requests the gracious attendance of our neighbors,
near and far, to participate in the contests and raise all contestants to
the peak of their arts. Although the Baronial Championship in each category
may be awarded only to one of Storvik's own, any may triumph at the
contests.

The site is Patuxent River Park, on the banks of the Patuxent River. The
site is green and shady, with ample camping space. The site opens at 5 p.m.
on Friday and closes at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Competitions in all categories
will be held on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., with other activities,
including additional armored fighting and rapier, scheduled for Sunday until
2 p.m.

Feast will be held Saturday evening in the picnic pavilion. This site is
damp on a limited basis; only beer in kegs is permitted. There may be a
"Stone Soup" dinner on Friday; call the Autocrat for details or with dietary
restrictions. Both Friday and Saturday night, we will have a roaring fire,
and because this is Storvik, we'll probably be singing.

There will be children's activities; the Storvik childpack will be in full
cry, and welcomes children near and far to join them at play.

This is a camping event. Because we may not accept money onsite, we ask
that you pre-register and pre-pay. The on-board price is $15; off-board is
$9; children under 12 are half-price and under 6 are the guests of the
Barony. Please make checks payable to SCA, Inc./Barony of Storvik.
