This post is a non-SCA, personal request, posted with the permission of the

Christine Kervina (Lady Gwynaeth Pembroke) and Lisa Buschbaum (Lady Jenet
Fairhaugh) are training for a 100-mile bike ride, called a century ride, as
part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. We
have committed to train and raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest
not-for-profit organization concerned solely with finding cures for
leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma. The Society is
supported entirely by private donations and over 80% of each tax-deductible
donation directly finances research, patient services, and education. Team
in Training is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's primary fund-raising
activity, so we know that our efforts will help support theirs in finding
treatments and cures for these blood-related cancers.

Christine is riding her century in honor of Amy Smyth-Wilson, known in the
SCA as Rowen ferch Rhys. Amy was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic
leukemia in October 2001. She has completed her second course of treatment
and is already back at work! We're hopeful that her platelet levels improve
so that she can be officially declared in remission soon.

Lisa is riding in honor of Shirley Sullivan, a long-time family friend.
Shirley was diagnosed with Lymphoma after Lisa decided to join the Team in
Training program to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Shirley has started her first course of radiation as of February 4 and we
are waiting to see how the treatments go.

The total amount of funds that we need to raise is $8000. Every donation,
regardless of amount, is important and greatly appreciated. Your employer
may also offer matching donations to charitable organizations, which will
make your contribution even more significant!. If you would like more
information on Team in Training, please visit the National Capital Area Team
in Training webpage at http://www.tntdc.org.

There is several ways to donate. Anything you would be willing to give would
be a great help. You can mail checks to Christine Kervina at: 10311 Lomond
DR Manassas VA 20109. You can donate online at

Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help us on our fundraising
and endurance challenge!

In service,
Christine Kervina and Lisa Buschbaum
