Greetings to the members of the list.
Perhaps I am naive and do not understand the references to the device of the
Queen of Atlantia. If so, I consider myself fortunate. I attempt to live
both my SCA and mundane lives by a small, simple rule told to me by a very
good friend: Try to bring some of the grace, courtesy and honour that we take
for granted in the SCA to your mundane life. I do not personally know the
current Queen or Princess, but it does not matter. I have personally known
several Queens and Princesses very well, and they all have been graceful,
kind, courteous and honourable, even in the face of some trying situations.
In short, the kind of person I want my daughter to grow up to be. I applaud
the honour with which certain listmembers defended the current Ladies. I
understand the desire for the original poster to have her side heard too.
However, both the original post from Thyra and the response from Mistress
Alisoun had no place on this list to begin with. That was not gracious,
courteous or honourable. It has also helped to tarnish, however slightly,
the bright golden Dream we all carry in our hearts, which is the reason we
joined the SCA in the first place. From here on, we all have a choice: we
can continue to participate in this discussion, tarnishing everyone's Dream;
or we can stop participating in this discussion and help repair some of the
damage that this has caused to Atlantia. Since I don't appreciate having my
Dream tarnished, I know what I'm planning on doing.
Yr eiddoch yn gywir,
Baroness Olwen de Montgomery
