I would like to express my appreciation to the people of the SCA. I
received so many cards, letters, and other good wishes during my recent
infirmity that I am quite overwhelmed. One of our crew who went to
Gulf wars since I couldn't (his first event, btw) wondered if I knew
EVERYONE in the society, and sometimes I feel like I do. We have so much
in common, that "service to the dream".

At any rate, I saw my surgeon again this week, and will not be able to
reuturn to the heavy field except as an
archer/marshal/scout/Waterbearer, etc. NO more blows to the side of my
head. I'll sure miss this, as I was beginning to really enjoy being a
spear player. I ---will--- be back out there with a bow, but that is
also a pretty good ways off; I am hoping Pennsic.

I will be able to resume rapier combat at some point. The surgeon was
one of our students, and so understands sport fencing, and suggests that
I work on footwork for 6-8 weeks when I do get active again before I put
any further stress on my neck and shoulders by holding a blade. But he
DID say I could go back to it eventually.
