We can't keep this to ourselves! Let the faint-hearted look away!
Let it be known that "Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe Unlock'd" , by Janet
Arnold, is available in print again! On 10 May 1999, we contacted the
publisher (maney.co.uk) who said that a reprint was planned, but we
heard nothing until today! Their description:
Designs for jewelry and embroidery and gifts of clothing to and from
the Queen are discussed, together with the symbolism of motifs and
colors. The organization and staff of the Wardrobe of Roves, the
work of craftsmen employed to make the Queen's clothes and
accessories - tailors, embroiderers, farthingale-makers, cappers,
hosiers, shoemakers, and others - and the wares supplied by
silkwomen and silkmen, provide a background to the study. the work
is copiously annotated.
460 b/w photos (portraits, miniatures, tomb sculpture, engravings,
woven textiles and embroideries) 4 color plates, 396 pages,
hardcover. $165
