With utmost respect to Mistress Alisoun, I first heard the off-color jokes
about the Queen's Arms twenty years ago, when I joined the SCA, during the
reign of Bertrand and Anya. I traveled with Anya quite a bit, and i *never*
repeated what I'd heard, for fear of offending her. Later, I received my AoA
from Jahn and Tuiren, after serving as one of the Royal Nannies for their
son, Bevan. I do not know if Queen Tuiren was aware of the nasty joke, but I
wasn't going to be fool enough to tell her!

In short, the connotations have been around for a long time, but I've always
respected our Queens too much to particpate in ribald banter. I'm with Dame
Rosine on this one-anything that might cause any of our noble Queens, past,
present, or future, discomfort, should be avoided.
