Introduction to Drumming Workshop


Class information:

This is a introduction to hand drumming using middle eastern rhythms.  Here
you will learn basic hand drumming techniques.  This will include basic
exercises to train your body and mind, how to produce different sounds on a
drum, and learning to break down rhythms so to make them easier to master.
This will also include advice on how to play in a group and good drumming
etiquette.  You will leave this class with a better sense of drumming and
rhythms,  and how to play in a group.  Class time will last approximately
2 hours with a break in the middle.


Flutesong's bio

Flutesong (aka Perry Harward) has been drumming over 7 years in the Society
of Creative Anachronisms and several other events as well. He has learned
under Master Drummer Daveed Korup Middle Eastern style of drumming.   He is
married to Kira - Linn of Mountain Island (aka Wanda Harward) and has a 7
year old son.  As well as drumming, he also plays the tinwhistle and other
flutes.   He is self taught in tinwhistle.   Most times you can find him
telling stories to children or singing old ballads of yore or playing his
tinwhistle on the porch of the feast hall. .  He co-leads a drumming circle
the second Friday of the month 7:30 pm at Piedmont Unitarian Universalist
Church.  He has worked as a computer programmer and customer service
engineer and is currently looking for new opportunities.
