It's a matter of choosing to do so. I know

VERY well said. I agree with everything except for
reasons. Sometimes an old timer won't put on garb
because they're lazy. But some have taken off garb
because they're leaving or are doing the town run etc.
What I ask for that might have been said already is
to think a little. Making garb for someone is great
and doing things for newcomers is something I consider
a responsibility of all of us.
However I find some members have taken on the
responsibility of correcting others who have some kind
of non period item around without finding out why.
Case and point this weekend when I thought I was
leaving and got into modern clothing and found out my
rider had disappeared. Folks were complaining about
modern clothing instead of offering to help me find my
friend. Out of four peers in the room Mistress
Mordrea was the only one that came up very concerned
that I might have lost my ride. (This is an example
of courteous behavior by the way.)
So as we go to correct ourselves and work towards more
period items done cheaply please be careful with over
zealousness towards this goal. This is a medieval
society but it is also a society of courtesy and
wagging a finger at someone without helping them was
never courteous.
Forgive me if this has been mentioned already. I sort
of haven't had time for this thread as I'm in the
throes of starting my own business. And if someone
has a copy of the post that mentioned peers making
garb for newcomers and newcomers' track at University
would you send it to me? I believe it was from His
Highness but I'm not sure. It sounded like a very
constructive approach.
