Greetings to all who enjoy pleasant amusements with
good company!
I am looking for a few light hearted souls who are
willing to help run some games at Coronation (Sept.
6-8th). Different games would be run at different
times, beginning Friday night and at various non-court
times on Saturday. I would not ask to monopolize all
your time... unless you just WANT to play games all
day!
Let me also point out, that this is NOT the children's
corner, nor is it a babysitting service. Some of the
games may be appropriate for kids, so may not.
Our ideas thus far are listed below. Some are
indoor/table games some are outdoor/field games. If
you have a favorite, or know of one I'm not familiar
with, do not hesitate to contact me...especially if it
has a hunting theme or was popular in the 14th c, as
these are the themes for the event. If you don't know
how to play any of these, but are interested in
learning and willing to "guide the field" then let me
know that too!
Also, if you have equipment for any of these, or other
games, and you are willing to lend it, that would be
greatly appreciated, even if you do not want to be
around while it's being played.
I know it may seem difficult to look past the looming
big war, but if you think you will be able and willing
to help, please let me know as soon as possible!
List of potential games:
chess
tables (like backgammon)
various dice games
various card games
9 Mans Morris
"Fox and Hounds" or "Fox and Geese"
Boules or Bocce (depending on preferred culture)
Hopscotch (began as Roman military training
exercises!)
Pall Mall (precursor to croquet)
Kubb (bowling with logs)
Quoits (horse shoes)
various tag and race games
Thank you all!

"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy.
If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem.
But I arise in the morning torn between the desire to improve the world,
and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day."
