Sacred Stone's Twentieth Baronial Birthday: Arabian Nights
August 30 ? September 1, 2002
Site: Full of mischief, valor, and romance, The Arabian Nights has enthralled
readers with the tales that saved the life of Scheherazade, whose husband, the
king, executed each of his wives after a single night of marriage. Join us in
recreating the splendor of those stories, and experience the enchantment at
Camp York, King's Mountain State Park, 1277 Park Rd, Blacksburg, SC, 29702.
The park is a lovely wooded area and has cabins with beds and/or floor space
(no guarantees for a bed for all). There are hot shower bath houses and
swimming at your own risk (no lifeguard). Site opens at 5 PM Friday, August 30
and closes at 11 AM on Sunday, September 1. Pets are welcome, but must be kept
on leashes at all times. Site is dry. Per park rules, vehicles are not to be
driven on non-paved roads. Violators will be removed from site. Middle
Eastern garb is encouraged, but not necessary. Details may be found on the
Baronial web site: http://members.aol.com/sacrdstone/
Fighting: There will be more martial activity than you can shake a sword at!
For the Heavy Fighters:
1) The Champions Tourney: Come fight for the Baroness! The Baronial Heavy
Champion will be chosen from this double elimination tourney. All participants
should bring an A&S entry, and be prepared to have a personal interview with
the Baroness, with their ideas on how to organize our Baronial Heavy army.
2) Infidel's Challenge: A timed Bear Pit Tourney, wounds retained. Points
will be given for each fight, and for each win. The fighter who has the most
points will have conquered the infidels! Prizes will also be given for "most
honorable fighter" and "Audience Choice" (bribery never hurts on audience
choice).
3) Saladin and the Crusaders: Come fight for Saladin, or the crusaders.
Fighters will be split into two sides in a melee battle. Prizes will be given
to those voted most honorable by their team and Baroness's choice.
For the Rapier fighters:
1) The Champions Tourney: Come fight for the Baroness! The Baronial Rapier
Champion will be chosen from this
double elimination tourney. All participants should bring an A&S entry,
and be prepared to have a personal
interview with the Baroness, with their ideas on how to further our
rapier participation, as a Baronial Levy and in the Academy d'Espee.
2) First Blood Tourney: A timed Bear Pit Tourney, with wounds retained. The
fighter who strikes a killing blow loses. All blows should be aimed to wound.
The fighter with the least number of opponent deaths per fights wins the
prize. Prizes will also be given for style, wit and best death-all judged by
the audience (bribery works well!) and most honorable fighter.
3) Ali Babba Tourney: Come fight with Ali Babba or the Thieves. Fighters will
be split into two teams, fighting for the treasure chest stolen from the cave
in a all out melee. Prizes given to the most honorable (voted by the teams)
and Baronesses choice.
Come fight, cheer on the fighters, and join the gallery to help hand out
prizes! Fun will be had for all!
A&S: There will be a competition to choose the baronial A&S champion. In
addition, each person vying for a baronial champion position in a fighting area
will be required to submit an A&S entry and be interviewed by the baroness.
1. Baronial Champions: Heavy, Rapier, Archery. An entry is required, but
there is no set criteria.
2. A&S Champion: A baronial, middle eastern theme, any medium. Basic
documentation is required.
3. Populace Display: Use of the Phoenix in the Eastern Knowne World or use of
Green and White with a Middle Eastern theme.
4. Bardic Display of storytelling using Phoenixes, the History of Sacred
Stone, or Scheherazade's Tales as inspiration.
Members of the OPE are encouraged to participate by entering pieces for
display, and by leaving comments and tokens encouraging participation and
excellence in the Arts and Sciences in the Barony of the Sacred Stone. Any
Companions of the Pearl or Laurels who attend are also encouraged to
participate and leave comments and tokens.
Children's Activities: There will be a Children's Tea beginning at Noon. The
children of Sacred Stone are welcome to dine with Baroness Kisaiya. We will be
serving sweets and drinks. After tea, we will continue activities until 2 PM.
If you have any concerns or questions, please email Milady Engelsvind von
Nürnberg, lauren at silverquill.net Parents will be asked to donate an hour of
their time to the activities.
Court & Curia: Prior to feast, the baroness will hold court to announce the new
champions. She will be holding curia Sunday at 9 am. The baronial calendar
meeting will be during curia.
Games: Lady Kellia and her husband will be hosting a variety of games
(including bocci) for all interested.
Classes: "Introduction to Drumming" This is a introduction to hand drumming
using middle eastern rhythms. Here you will learn basic hand drumming
techniques. This will include basic exercises to train your body and mind, how
to produce different sounds on a drum, and learning to break down rhythms so to
make them easier to master. This will also include advice on how to play in a
group and good drumming etiquette. You will leave this class with a better
sense of drumming and rhythms, and how to play in a group. Class time will
last approximately 1.5 hours. Class will be held at 10 AM, location TBD.
Fashion Show: Work on your persona and come prepared for a show! During feast
we will have a fashion show (similar to Pennsic) of your persona's garb.
Documentation is encouraged, but not required. As many cultures had contact of
those with the Middle East, this will not be limited to ME garb only. Come and
show off your finery!
Field display: In addition to your garb, here's a chance to show off your
camp! There will be a prize awarded to the best "encampment" around the list
field area. So bring your day shade, ground cloths, and other camp finery.
Feast: Lady Brianna O'Duinn will be our head cook. She and her assistants will
be creating a feast designed to celebrate and honor our fine barony!
Tavern lunch: A tavern lunch will be available for a small fee on Saturday.
This will include stew (choice of vegetarian or beef), home-made bread, fruit,
and beverage.
