A trial run on the shield for my kinsmen was run at
the last Windmasters Hill Baronial practice, and it
was a success. The Bugs are even as we speak being
worked out. We ran he scenario with 10 teams competing
at the same time and all went well. The single most
important things was however accomplished, Everyone
that played had fun, people were laughing while they
fought and no one got hurt.
Some good questions that have been asked about it:
Where is this happening at?
It is scheduled to be the second round of fighting
after the standard double elim tourney at the tourney
of Ymir, in Windmasters Hill Feb 9
What kind of shield can I use?
As long as your shield is within the standards set
forth by the society marshal and the kingdom of
Atlanta, you can use what ever kind of shield you
want.
I am the kinsmen (weapons man) of my team can I use 2
swords, or a glave?
No. The weapons that you may use are a single sword
or a spear your choice.
If my shield man dies can I pick up his shield?
No. If your shield man dies you are without a shield.
I have this neat free hand that I have in a full
gauntlet can I grab or hold my opponents shield?
No. Society rules say:
Wrestling with or grappling the opponent, to include
the opponents torso, limbs, shield, or weapons
striking surface, blade or head is prohibited
If I am the weapons man can I take a spear from an
opponent during combat?
Yes. For the purposes of this combat if you take your
opponents spear then he is dead.
If I am the weapons man can I take my opponents sword
during combat?
Only if you can explain to me how you would take it
without grabbing the opponents torso, limbs, shield,
or weapons striking surface, blade or head
(Dont think too hard on this the answer is you cant
do it safely)
I am the shield man for my team and I dont have
gauntlets can I use my sword in a defensive only
style?
While I prefer you wear a gauntlet (a Ice hockey glove
counts) Yes, you can carry your sword point down.
Its there primarily to protect your hand. Use the
shield for your teams defense.
One more time explain a shield for my kinsmen thing.
A team consists of a shield man and a kinsman.
The shield man gets a shield. Thats all you get. A
gauntlet will be need to protect your off hand.
The kinsman is armed with either a spear or a single
handed weapon (kinsmans choice) If you chose to use a
single handed weapon you will need to have on a
gauntlet on your off hand for protection.
The teams will fight until your kinsman (the guy with
the weapon) is dead. If you shield man dies, and you
so choose too you may fight on.
The fluid part of this will be what form this takes.
It will either be a melee with all teams competing
atone time or a second tourney with teams competing
against each other one at a time. What form it takes
will depend on the time remaining after the first
tourney. IF you have more questions DO NOT SEND THEM
TOCOTYIS at YAHOO.COM. That is where I get my bulk email
delivered and I am it is possible that I will not see
your question. Please direct all questions to my home
account at ArgentLion at nc.rr.com OR call me919-859-2284
I would consider it a favor if you were to pass this
on to your local news groups where appropriate.
In service,
Gaston
