..."lest not forget there is at least one Duke in
Aethaelmarch that has taken up fencing". Well in
Ansteorra where I started 20yrs ago there was HG Duke
Don Sigmund, HE, Count, Don Sir Simon of Amber, Don
Sir Christain Dupre, and several others who not only
fight heavy weapons and been Crown but also have taken
up fencing/rapier and achieved the highest level of
that style of combat. For my 2 cents worth those who
think fencing is boring, should pay more attention to
your next Rapier champions list(aka in some realms
Queen's Champion). i have seen those lists be as
exciting as many a Crown final with just as determined
participants. On the contrary fencing is not boring
and perhaps one day it could be part of a Crown
Tourney format perhaps along w/ a target archery
portion as well (this should generate some comments).
I am not in favor of changing crown lists to rapier
but I am open to fencing becoming a "part of the
process,if the Society as a whole agreed to such a
monumental change. Besides, fencing is great training
for wars and melees. Some of the best pole men/armers
I have seen are fencers w/ 8ft rapiers...spears great
point control as they joyfully pop you in the
faceplate with a lightning quick thrust :0)
Lord Alexander, Shire of Arenal, Meridies (formerly of Ansteorra)
