Greetings all. As a non-fighter, I would like to
respond to some recient comments on the heavy vs.
fencing debate. I would like to add the caviate that
I have in my time been authorized in both Heavy and
Light forms, my current condition not allowing me to
play in anything but combat sewing.
Hrothgar, I do understand your POV on the excitement
of crown tourney and "what it takes to get there", but
I also believe that watching a Fencing Tourney can be
just as exciting, especially in the final rounds. I
am reminded of the Lord & Lady tourney at Pennsic XXX
that lasted a good 15 minutes with much evading,
striking, and landing of good blows. While they do
not make as much noise with one blow as heavy swords
do, by watching a bout, one can learn as much about
technique as watching a heavy bout.
I ask that since under our current Kingdom Laws only
Heavy Fighters are allowed to play for Crown, that
would you ask that all A&S competitions stop because
they are not "moving toward the goal of becoming
King?" Would you ask that we not hold brewing
competitions? Would you ask for all Garb Wars to
stop? I would hope not, nor would I hope that any
King or Queen ask that the populas stop working toward
any skill that does not "move toward Crown"
