[MR] Crown Tourn etc

I almost Never get into these types of arguments since I will never be
fighting in a Crown unless someone finds a way to rebuild a back and a foot
and donates their services!!

That said, I do wonder at the rush to fix something that appears not to be
broken. There has been ONE "variation" on the tradition. Which does not
seem a major threat to me.

Secondly, the Crowns of the kingdoms can generally be trusted to act
intelligently when setting the rules for Crown Tourney, and if not, they may
find little support the next time they try to ascend the thrones, and
perhaps even cripple the reign of the person who wins the crown in the
tourney they determine the conventions for.... so in a sense the Crowns
always have to consider the reaction of the populace to a "bold move" or a
"variation" of our traditons.

Third, I am one that also feels that the BOD has too much power as it is,
and as a matter of principle object to almost anything that "comes down from
on high" from them. (And I probably will until I feel that the Kingdoms
have some input into who is on the BOD and it is not a selfcontinuing
incestiously self appointing body whose opionion seem to run about 99 to 1
in what I consider the wrong way) I wonder if the next step will be for the
BOD to determine the weapons that can be used, limiting Crowns to,lets say,
greatsword only.........or off handed single ax?

I agree with Sir Logan, we are NOT historical in this sense. And if were
concerned with making our Kings and Queens as in period, lets have a war,
and not only that, if kingdom A wins the war it absorbs kingdom B until
Kingdom B can raise enough army to defeat Kingdom A and absorb it!!! (Now
THAT would motivate the populace to support their kingdom in war!!!)

If we were tempted to even think the Tourney was used to determine such
important things, then I would try to HIRE Sir Logan as my Champion to fight
Crown for me and my Lady! (Certainly a period approach!!) In fact I have
studied Copora to see if there is a way to do this...I seem to remember Sir
Olaf threatening to do it one time in the early days! If anything this
slight possibility would be a far more radical change than what the BOD
seems to be swooping in to prevent happening, and as far as I know it has
never happened yet!

Thats the two bits worth from this "old timer" in the Society.
