I use Earthlink and actually work for Earthlink and have no problems with it. Don't be so quick to judge customer service either. Customer service has a limited amount of information to work with. The ARE NOT technical people. If you have a problem with your service, technical support are the people to speak with. Customer service = billing, tech = problems with access. I'm sorry that you had problems with it, but really, cserv really can't determine what's wrong on your computer or our end. All we can do is say that there's nothing wrong with the physical account being there.

I totall y understand - I had eathlink for 2 years, and right around Christmas it really started to nose-dive. I'd go 12-18 hours without mail (which isn't possible, considering all the lists I"m subbed to1), customer service claimed there was nothing wrong at their end, (insinuating that it MUST be user error), and that I should check to see if any of my 'missing mail' bounced back to the senders.
So I dumped them, and am now using Comcast. The cable modem's great, downlaods take next to no time, and I can talk on the phone a write emails or surf ebay, all at the same time.
It's well worth the extra $18.00/month, IMHO.
