I just finished reading this last night. Only part of it is
relevant to the Middle Ages, but the author has a lot to say about
that part of it (hint: he is best known in the SCA for his books on
heraldry.) An interesting read, but not easily applicable for most
people, with two groups excepted.

If you are an illuminator, or do other period art, this book
might help you make your scrolls for early period personae more
accurate by suggesting an appropriate palette. Taste and use of
color changed considerably across the period the SCA recreates,
something we don't often think about.

Second, if you are a costumer, portions of this book
concentrate on dyes available and their use in Europe in the Middle
Ages; you'll find this book useful for the same reasons that the
first group will in your work.
