I'm going to respond to two statements in one with this, so if y'all will bear with me for a second.
I'm a relative newcomer to the society having only 2 1/2 years under my belt. I've seen Crown Tournaments and have thoroughly enjoyed myself in both watching and participating as a consort to a fighter. I fully agree with Countess Mary-Grace in the concept of the feeling of:
<snip> "the shear power of that moment unless you have been there.... All I can tell you is, that the moment that the man I love most in the world struck that final blow, and he became Prince, the emotions were overwhelming. I was so proud of him and so deeply honored that he loved me enough..." <end snippage>
Although for me it wasn't the final battle, merely a round early in the tournament, I was just as proud as if he had won the whole bloody thing!
NEXT THOUGHT
Ban the rapiers? I can't see that happening here, they are too much a part of who we are. Besides if we did who would roast the hotdogs and marshmallows? All kidding aside, Rapier is something with flash and pizzazz. It's athletic in it's own way. I think back to high school and college and the comparison with Swimmers and Football Players. Everyone knew the Football Quarterback or Linebacker or Kicker, etc. and you can probably remember them still, but name the swimmers or divers from that team. No one will question that they are both athletes and both will probably admit neither can do the other's skills as well. But that doesn't mean that either are any less significant. Football is just a more focal sport in 90% of america's schools.
And so it is in our little club.
Although my dear lord husband would differ with his opinion of a Rapier King. His current philosophy on this (and don't slay the messenger) is "If they can't run with the Big Dogs... give them antennas and let them go poke each other." --Wylie, 2002
