Here Here, Your Excellency!
I too have sat back on my duff and watched the bickering go by. Even though I
have never been at a Crown Tourney, I have read most of the statements on
here and have found a gradual attack from the BoD's decision to each other.
This, my friends, is not chivalry. Here is a definition of the word
"chivlary" from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Main Entry: chiv·al·ry
Pronunciation: 'shi-v&l-rE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ries
Etymology: Middle English chivalrie, from Middle French chevalerie, from
chevalier knight —more at <A
HREF="aol://4344:1708.D0011657.40119691.672502602">CHEVALIER</A>
Date: 14th century
1 : mounted men-at-arms
2 : archaic : a : martial valor b : knightly skill
3 : gallant or distinguished gentlemen
4 : the system, spirit, or customs of medieval knighthood
5 : the qualities of the ideal knight : chivalrous conduct
As I have observed from the most recent e-mails, I have not seen this conduct
amongst any of them. I do have to agree with the Countess on this one. You
may believe it may be something false, but don't flat out say it is false. We
are all in the SCA because we wish to uphold the principles of chivalry ,
honor, and courage on and off of the tourney field. I'm only a youngin' (17)
and some of you may think i'm getting on my soapbox. But i'm kinda tired of
this bickering back and forth. If you disagree with the BoD's decision, write
them with your opinion instead of getting into rude conversations.
Period of ranting is now over.
