Actually, it's not owned by the BoD, it's owned by the Society for
Creative Anachronism, Inc. The Bod only sets the guidelines by which the
property of the corporation is used. This may sound vaguely ominous, but it
is this authority, delegated to each Kingdom, that allows your Crown and
Kingdom officers to conduct business on behalf of the SCA, Inc. in the
states they cover. HRM Glamr doesn't 'own' the assets of Atlantia, but has
the authority to use them as appropriate. It's the same with the BoD.

As far as playing the game the way they want, how many R&D banishments
are you aware of that did not come about as the result of a direct request
from the issuing Kingdom? I personally am only aware of two. The BoD is
certainly not without it's faults, and there is great room for improvement
in how it operates, but without knowing a bit more about the circumstances
under which these particular actions were taken, I cannot in good conscience
sign the petition as requested by Aveloc, particularly in light of the
things he does admit to on his own website.

The power that the BoD has is that they legally ARE the SCA in regard
to forming policy and administering to its members. Their greatest weapon is
the fact that the corporate entity, embodied by the BoD, owns everything
that has SCA on it. The money in your local group's account, the loaner
armor and supplies purchased with SCA funds, and anything that has been
donated to your local groups are all, legally speaking, owned by the board.
If you don't play the game the way they want you to they can step in and
banish everyone, take all the toys and go home.
