[MR] Crown Tourney/Why should Atlantia Care...

semi random synapse sputters...

It is my view that Atlantia should very much care what other kingdoms
do, since actions in those kingdoms may cause the BoD at any time to
step in and make law that in turn affects us. The fact that Atlantia may
not have done anything to precipitate the action is quite beside the
point.

The real question in my mind is whether I want the BoD to decide for me
how I play the game with my peers (modern usage here). I view the BoD as
a necessary group whose main function is to ensure good relations
between the group and the outside world, and between the various groups.
Like the United Nations, I feel it should be most concerned with inter
kingdom and external relations and have virtually no say about local
(internal) group issues, unless those issues have external consequences
(like safety, et al). I do not feel the BoD should make more law
concerning crown tourneys.

There have been many fine words spoken about the importance of single
combat and it's relationship to the throne. I accept fully that those
who wish to strive for that honor wish to do so by their own singular
efforts. If the hope of winning a crown by the strength of your arm is
your ultimate goal, then I salute you, and will support you should you
be victorious. But please recognize the fact that not all of us fight
for that reason. If winning crown were the only acceptable goal, I would
have no reason to continue fighting. Some of us fight for the sheer joy
of combat. Anyone who has seen me grinning on my way into the list or
into a charge knows that I'm not in it for the money :) . In regards to
the Kingship, well, some of us are there only to serve. And some of us
provide that service in armor.

And Finally...
Telling me that if I don't like it I can start my own group is not
helpful. I always thought that if I cared, I should work to make the
game I'm IN better, rather than abandoning it because I think things
aren't perfect.

Thanks for listening
