Thanks to everyone who responded to my email about the paid parking we had at
Pennsic 2001. To tell the truth I didn't know the whole story of how it came
about. I'm one of those light sleepers who stay at a motel because the noise
from the highway and the campsites are too great. Having the parking
available was a godsend. It also allowed me to keep my armor in my truck so I
got in more pickup fighting then ever before or since.
But there were some good points brought up. Space does have to be maintained
to allow the sanitation grows access to the johns. Better to walk a little
more if it means we have fresher places to perform the natural act. About the
cars being mundane, well that's true. One gentle suggested running walls such
as we see at some campsites, perhaps that would help. One Lady mentioned that
she didn't like having to walk between cars to get from there to here. Well,
we can rope off walk ways. Another felt it would inconvenience the Coopers,
but we are paying and paying well for the use of the campsite are we not? The
parking area I mentioned is where the Saturday crush crowd is parked anyway
so the is no extra grading or investment on the Coopers part. One email
mentioned that the proceeds of the paid parking went not to the Coopers but
to an ambulance service. Perhaps that is one truly telling argument in favor
of paid parking. The next person whose life may be saved could be yours.
Vivat Atlantia, next year we'll win the war.
