The Corporate insurance cost, calculated per event attendee, has run
between 15 and 25 CENTS per person per event over the last 8 to 10 years.

Assuming that the $3 NMS is divided reasonably between the items in the
corporate budget, the remaining $2.75 goes to fund the Registry
(Corporate office), employee salaries and the $2 per member/year
increase in the newsletter stipend voted in by the Board at the same
meeting.

In other words, asking/forcing people to pay for services they do not
use or benefit from so that others may.

In fact this action has nothing to do with equity. It has everything to
do with the Corporation (not the Society, which pre-dates the SCA, Inc.)
running in the red and going back to a line of revenue that they have
tapped in the past, simply because they can. To quote one Board member
at the meeting "We've been running off the surplus generated by the last
surcharge for 6 years." He then went on to say that the Board should do
it again.
