I would imagine in lieu of paint that one could find wood-grain contact
paper to apply. That way it sort of resembles a wooden chest. Paint
iron strap hinges on it, or cut out the pattern from black contact
paper & stick it on. Put a coat of polyurethane or laquer over the
whole thing to keep it from peeling off & to protect it from nicks &
scrapes. Just a thought.
