The Renaissance Image of the Ideal Woman 
 
“Virtue and Beauty: Leonardo's Ginevra de'Benci and
Renaissance Portraits of Women"—opens at the National
Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. on September 30.
The show, which is on view through January 6, 2002,
tracks the phenomenal rise and evolution of female
portraiture in Florence from c. 1440 to c. 1540 and
provides insight into the social role of women during
that time.
