Greetings!
I've had a few e-mail conversations with people regarding "Everyman
Competitions". There seems to have been some confusion about a competition
I designed and created the criteria for: Curriculum Vite.
Curriculum Vite, as I designed the competition, is very simply ONE example
of every art or science you've ever done in or for the SCA.
If judged as I intended, a person who is pretty good at 10 or 15 different
things will win over a person who is a master of 2 or 3 things. It's meant
to be a competition for generalists.
A person who concentrates on only one or two skills can enter the
competition, of course. It's just less likely to win over someone who has
Artistic Attention Deficit Disorder (I designed the competition around my
strength!! ;)
It does not matter when an item was created. Items could have been made
yesterday, or 10 years ago.
Each item does NOT need to be individually judged (that would take forever!)
The judges should be looking for over-all competence, bredth of skills,
and documentation. This means that someone who's pretty good at 8 or 9
different skills should win over someone who's indifferently good at 15 or
more skills.
*Brief* documentation of each item is encouraged. As well as when you
learned the skill, who from, and if you've ever taught it to someone else.
(I did not run the first Curriculum Vite. It was wonderfully administered
by Baroness Magdalena de Hazebrouck; I couldn't even attend the event. But
I sent things to be entered. I attached small tags to each of my items with
the above information printed on them.)
I encourage anyone who wishes to run a varient of the Curriculum Vite
competition to clearly state the criteria in the event flyer (good advice
for *all* A&S competitions!).
If anyone has any further questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
Regards!
- Anarra
