Greetings from Alisoun MacCoul of Elphane, Metron Ariston Herald!

Her forms had the byname as Thistlethweyt, but the documentation provided
supported the spelling used above.

Rose McDermott. Device. Argent, a dragon segreant, on a chief azure three
roses argent.
Rose Morgan. Household Name for Bardshaven.
Steffan von Kiel. Device. Per chevron inverted vert and sable, in chief a

A second Pennsic Letter of Intent dated 27 August included the following
submissions:
Amalia Kunne. Change of Name from Amalie Kunz.
Anne Balfour of Markinch. Badge. (Fieldless) An arm, embowed and couped
close above the elbow, sustaining a club bendwise azure.
Atlantia, Kingdom of. Title for Paulonia Herald.
Catalina dell'Acqua. Name and Device. Vert, three rapiers inverted in
pile, on a chief wavy argent, three gouttes d'eau.
Caitilin Fhionn inghean Fhinn. Name (see RETURNS for device).
The forms had the last element as inghean Fionn. This is the unlenited
nominative form. Therefore, we modified this to the correct lenited
genitive form: Fhinn. Note that she did not allow major changes, but we
considered this to be a minor change as defined by our current forms.
Ciar O Byrne. Device. Argent, on a chevron gules between two reremice
displayed and a raven close sable, three scourges argent.
Cinthia of Newbury. Name and Device. Per chevron purpure and Or, two fish

This had been returned for redraw at the August Golden Dolphin meeting and
was redrawn by one of our "house artists".

Lore Bubeck. Name.
Micheal ua Aindriu. Appeal of Name Modification by Laurel.
This gentle's name was modified at acceptance in June, 2001, to Giolla
Michel ua Gilla Aindriasa. Triton, Golden Dolphin and I all agreed with
the submitter that this change went beyond the parameters for making a name
more authentic, as it produced a name that three of us did not recognize as
the same name.
Mungo MacGlinchy. Name and Device. Argent, a triskelion arrondi between
three orcas naiant in annulo sable.
The submitter was very patient with us as we discussed the given name
Mungo with him in the light of Laurel's recent return of a submission with
that given name on the grounds that it was in period uniquely a nickname
for Saint Kentigern. He agreed to submit under the name of Mongan with the
proviso that we try to document the given name for him once home from
Pennsic. Fortunately, after an extensive internet search, we were able to
discover that Sir Robert Moray, one of the founders of the Royal Society,
was born in 1608 and his father's name was given as Mungo Moray.
Odde ap Tam. Name and Device. Counterermine, a harp within eight mullets
in annulo Or.
Odo le Thike. Name and Device. Per pale argent and sable, on a chevron,
six towers palewise, all counterchanged.
On the paperwork, the towers were blazoned as chess rooks, but period
chess rooks as shown in the Pictorial Dictionary do not look like towers so
we reblazoned the tertiary charges. This does not affect the appearance of
the emblazon.
Perronnelle la Peinteuse. Name.
This lady came to us from the Pennsic Consult Table where she was told
that she could not be Perronnelle the Painter in French, but had to be
Perronnelle l'artiste. We were able to document the masculine form le
Peinteur from period and here use a standard feminine form following the
practise of using feminine occupational bynames so copiously documented
from "An Index to the Given Names in the 1292 Census of Paris".
Rabi'ah bint Mustafa. Name.
Rois Bheag inghean Chiarain. Name and Device. Sable, a rapier palewise, on
a chief wavy argent a rose vert between two wagon wheels sable.
Sithmaith nic Aoidh. Name and Device. Purpure, a horse forcene to sinister
within a bordure argent, seme of oak leaves vert.
Stierbach, Barony of. Badge. Gules, on a heart argent, a bull's head
cabossed gules.
Stierbach, Barony of. Badge. Per pale wavy gules and argent, in fess a
glove palewise and a bull's head within a bordure, all counterchanged.
Sylvana Ballaster. Device. Per fess rayonny gules and sable, three
decrescents argent.
Ysabel Aliz. Name and Device. Argent, seme of oak leaves vert.
The following Pennsic submissions have been returned for further work:
Adina van der Heide. Badge. On a flame proper, a salamander tergiant
embowed counter-embowed Or, enfiled of a Roman capital letter "A" azure.
Unfortunately, although the paperwork submitted at Pennsic blazoned the
salamander as enflamed, in fact what was depicted on the emblzon was a
flame proper on which the salamander and letter combination was placed. A
flame proper must be either red on the inside and yellow on the outside or
yellow on the inside and red on the outside. In either case there is a
problem with contrast here. If it is the former, there is insufficient
contrast with the azure letter. If it is the latter, there is insufficient
contrast with the salamander.
Caitilin Fhionn inghean Fhinn. Device. Per fess engrailed vert and azure,
in chief a dag rune Or.
There is a long-standing precedent going back to the days of Baldwin of
Erebor that bans the use of letters or runes without other charges on the
field: "The consensus of the College of Arms was that a single letter of
the alphabet may not be registered as a personal badge. To quote Batonvert,
'We cannot protect single letters, since anyone has the right to use his or
her initials without regard to conflict. Since we cannot protect them, we
should not register them.' " (Baldwin, writing in August, 1984).
Christiana filia Clarae Fayreclought. Device. Vert, three garbs Or, on a
chief dancetty sable, an increscent Or.
The sable chief has insufficient contrast with the field.
Marc d'Aubigny. Badge. Or, a hound's head breathing fire to sinister gules
between two tierces sable.
Unfortunately, when the device was redrawn with the tierces drawn
correctly, it became obvious that the badge had to be returned for conflict
with Asa Lee Durant ("Sable, on a pale Or, three compass stars sable.") A
properly drawn tierce takes up a third or nearly a third of the field and
so "Field A, two tierces B" is visually equivalent to "Field B, a pale A."
This being the case, there is only one real difference between the two for
the charges on the pale in Asa's armory.
Silence de Cherbourg. Device. Vert, a chevron between three fleurs-de-lys
Or.
This had to be returned for conflict. Between this submission and the
device of Penelopee of the Quill ("Vert, a chevron between two hawk's bells
and a quill pen Or.") there is only one difference for the type of
secondary charges. Similarly between this submission and the armory of
Chesley of Headless House ("Per chevron sable and azure, a chevron between
three fleurs-de-lys Or.") there is only one difference for the tincture of
the field.
