Today's [old] new word is:
Gebeorscipe (or "beorscipe")
B&T list beorscipe (glossed "a feast") and note that it is a variation of
gebeorscipe, which is treated in a separate entry. The entry for
gebeorscipe reads "BEER-SHIP, convivial society, a drinking party, feast, an
entertainment."
Evidently, it refers to the practise of friends gathering together for
beer and entertainment, usually in the form of a bardic evening. There was a
citation referring to a man who fled the Hall in embarrassment when it was
his turn to perform.
Sounds like a word we need to revive, eh?
